Chapel Hill Home

We left Nashville just four days ahead of a terrible storm that reworked the tree canopy due to ice ice ice weighing down, then breaking limbs and leaving plenty of residents with no power during a cold spell that lasted two weeks.

Our moving van left at 3:30 PM on Tuesday, January 20 and we followed it down the street, then headed east to our new hometown. We arrived at 12:30 AM and stopped at the house for just a few minutes to drop off the cats and continued on to Carolyn and Matt’s house, where we stayed until our furniture arrived, just a day late.

While Nashville got hammered by ice, Chapel Hill escaped the same fate. We kept power, which made the cold more bearable. A week later, enough snow fell for decent snow angels and the need for a shovel to make a path to the house. Still, we had power, so also enjoyed hot showers and homemade meals.

Even so, the storms left us in limbo, shocked and sad that so many of our neighbors and friends were suffering in the cold, calling insurance agents, and carefully watching damaged trees hoping that no more branches would fall, while we hung out with our kids and granddaughters, waiting for delivery updates.

Our new house needs considerable love and attention, yet is awash in possibilities.

We’re not in limbo anymore and the snow you see in the photo has melted. We’re unpacking, getting organized, figuring out where the bird feeder will go, and where we’ll store holiday decorations.

We’ve joined the Y and are awaiting delivery of our driver’s licenses. I’ve received my new voter card. An NC plate is on the car.

It’s official.

We’re home.

Again.
