Getting to the Tyndale Monument
We left Selsley Commons in high spirits, nourished by good food, good cheer and a good night’s sleep, completely unaware that our 14 mile walk to North Nibley would be 14 miles of steep hills. We’ve tried to figure out how to share progress, beyond just sharing mileage, and yesterday gave us the chance.
Several miles in, we reached Coaley Peak Nature Reserve, with its panoramic views, including this one. The arrow shows Tyndale Monument, close to our next hotel, 8 miles from where we stood, according to a topograph.
A few miles later, we realized we’d be climbing a hill, straight up. …
The view looking back when we got to the tree line was wonderful, and it’s nice that we appreciated it, because we weren’t done.
Stairs and more climbing.
Worth the walk!
In Dursley, a topograph said we were now 4 miles from the monument, though it still looked like 8 to me.
More walking and then we were 2 miles away.
Then 1.
Almost there!
View from our room at The Black Horse Inn!
And this morning, one mile up and back to see and climb the tower’s 121 steps!
Looking back 12 miles!
On our way back down the hill, we met Olive and Jim, who have been married 60 years.
